A night at Bream Cove Anchorage

After 10 days up the Truro River (getting over the media attention of our whale encounter!) we weighed anchor to continue our journey west.

First up we stopped into Mylor Yacht Harbour to top up our fuel tank ahead of our intended passage from Penzance to Milford Haven. Mylor Yacht Harbour is situated on the western shore of the Falmouth Estuary, which is often referred to as Carrick Roads. The fuel pontoon is situated at the end of the visitors pontoon, which surrounds the eastern side of the marina. After re-fueling with diesel and topping up the water tank we set off for our short trip across the bay to our next anchorage.

With light winds it was a motor of 5.6nm from Mylor to Bream Cove, a good alternative to the Helford River which can get very busy. We dropped the hook at 50°6.932N 5°5.261W, a nice little anchorage close to Rosemullion Head. With the wind still from the south we did experience a bit of a swell however as it was due to move round to the south-west/west we rode it out for a few hours.

We were fortunate to enjoy the anchorage to ourselves, albeit the Cargo Ship ‘Ocean Grand‘ was anchored close by in the deeper water.

The nearby little beaches looked very inviting but unfortunately the rain came in so we didn’t get a chance to go ashore. The holding here is sand and the anchor bit well. Do be aware of the nearby rocks though and the lobster pots that always seem to be found in these convenient anchorages!
