DIY Boat Carpets!

We purchased a carpet remnant from the Ebay Outlet Store of Designer Carpet , a pair of Titanium Coated Tradesman Shears from Amazon and set to work with our measurement tape.

The only work space big enough on board to do this was our bed! So we removed the mattress and used the bed base as our workstation. Turning the carpet over we templated on the reverse, constantly taking measurements as we went. We found an old piece of wood in the marina bin which became our ‘straight edge’ guide!

Templating Boat Carpet

Once we were happy with our measurements, (which we checked about 5 times!) we cut the carpet and took it to a local carpet company for the edges to be whipped and some anti-slip backing to be fitted.

The carpet off cut cost £112 (and to be fair this was actually an ‘expensive’ one – there were plenty of cheaper ones, we just liked the look of this one!), the scissors £16 and the whipping and underlay £75, so a set of (mainly DIY!) boat carpets for just over £200! And we actually had enough left over to create another set for when these wear out so in fact 2 sets for the price of 1!
