Care Instructions

We’re going to go out on a whim here and assume that you don’t have your own personal ‘sunglasses butler’ who will take care of your sunglasses for you. (But hey if you do, good on you! ) So let us give you some tips so you get to enjoy your sunglasses for as long as possible.

For starters we highly recommend not sitting or standing on them, and throwing them won’t do them any favours either! What you can do though is handle them with care and keep them in their Bamboo case when you’re not using them. The microfibre pouch should at least be used when stowing them in a bag or somewhere where they could come into contact with sharp items. And whilst you may think it looks cool having them sit on top of your head, this can actually damage them by stretching the frames thus making them loose, so keep them on your face, you’ll look much cooler!

Of course our sunglasses are perfect for wearing at the beach or when out on the water but sadly, sand and saltwater are not our friends (when it comes to sunglasses that it!) Sand can scratch lenses and saltwater can damage anti-reflecting and mirrored coatings, so just be extra careful. Please do not rub the lenses if there are any signs of sand or salt water on them. Rinse your sunglasses in fresh, lukewarm water to remove any particles, especially after a day at the beach or after contact with salt water. PH neutral soap can be used, but not washing up liquid or other household glass cleaning products, and carefully dry the lenses with the microfibre cloth or a clean lint-free towel. Please don’t use kitchen roll!

So there you go…following these guidelines will help keep your sunnies in tip top condition, just like you!

What does UV400 mean?

Your eyes are wonderful so you need to look after them! The sun produces ultraviolet waves known as UVA, UVB and UVC. Now the earth’s atmosphere does a cracking job at absorbing most of the UVC waves, which is just as well seeing as it’s the most dangerous! However the UVA and UVB still get through, meaning our bodies are exposed to it. And just like you wear sunscreen to protect your skin from this radiation, you also need to wear a ‘screen’ to protect your eyes, after all too much exposure can lead to long term damage such as inflammation of the cornea or cataracts.  UV400 blocks all light rays with wavelengths up to 400 nanometers, and it just happens that all of these UV rays (UVA, UVB and UVC) are shorter than or equal to 400 nm. Therefore if you wear a pair of sunglasses fitted with UV400 lenses you will blocking out these rays. So there you have it, a little lesson in UV for you…oh and did we say, all our sunglasses come with UV400 lenses!

What does Category 3 mean?

So you may have also seen categories on sunglasses and thought ‘What on earth does that mean?’ Well let us fill you in! Our lenses are all Category 3 meaning they are suitable for use in strong sunlight and will  provide a good level of UV protection and a high level of sun glare reduction. The category number equates to a percentage of the VLT (Visible Light Transmission) the lens lets through. In the case of a category 3 this means the lens will usually only allow less than 20% of light through, meaning they are perfect for sunny days on the beach, bright days at sea or hiking through a vibrant mountain range!

What does Polarised mean?

UV rays, categories and now ‘polarised’…gosh there’s so much to take into account! So let’s explain what polarised means. Simply put they are designed to reduce glare. This can be especially important for those who spend time out on the water or on the slopes when a glare can be particularly blinding. But in fact they can benefit anyone, after all buildings, windows, roads, metal objects, can all give off a glare. The reason is down to light waves. You see light is made up of waves which travel in different directions. The problem occurs when the waves become horizontal – when they bounce off flat surfaces – which creates a glare making it difficult to see. Polarised sunglasses block these horizontal light waves, so it’s definitely a good thing!

What do I get with the sunglasses?

You get to look good, that’s what you get! Oh hang on…you meant the actual product. Well apart from an awesome pair of shades, each pair of sunglasses comes with a natural Bamboo case and a microfibre pouch which also doubles up as a cleaning cloth. We also include an additional microfibre cloth as well as a dose of positive vibes!
